When local “retirees” Dick and Cathie Livengood served their 14th year as Huntley 158 substitute teachers in 2019, the occasion was a milestone—subbing long enough to see students they had in kindergarten graduate from high school.
It’s remarkable longevity, considering they both retired in 2005.
The couple are among the longest-serving and most-beloved substitute teachers in the District.
“It’s truly a community, and we’re invested in that community,” Cathie says.
