Huntley High School was named to the Washington Post’s list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools.

Huntley High School has been named to the Washington Post “Most Challenging Schools” list for the third year in a row.

The list primarily reflects the Post’s own Challenge Index score, which measures the number of college-level tests given at a school in the previous calendar year divided by the number of graduates that year.

Huntley is among six McHenry County schools that made the list. Just 65 schools in Illinois made the national list, and only about 12 percent of schools nationwide make the cut.

“We are always pleased to receive national recognition for the high-quality education we provide to students,” said Superintendent John Burkey. “While this list focuses on just a sliver of the overall learning environment, it is a strong reflection of the work we continue to do to expand access and achievement on Advanced Placement and other high-level opportunities for students.”

Among other recent recognitions, Huntley 158 was ranked the 29th overall best school district in Illinois by Niche, and Huntley High School was listed among Getting Smart’s 100 Schools Worth Visiting “that can give educators a refreshing outlook on what schools can do.”
