Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), speech-language pathology paraprofessionals, and speech-language assistants provide services to District 158, its students and families. Services are provided to students enrolled in preschool through high school for a variety of speech and language needs.
Speech-language pathologists have master’s degrees, and are also certified by the Illinois State Board of Education with either a Type 3/9/10 or a Type 73 certificate with endorsements in speech-language pathology. Many of the District’s speech-language pathologists also hold their “CCC’s”, the “Certificate of Clinical Competence” from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the national organization for Speech-Language pathologists and audiologists.
Speech-language pathology paraprofessionals have completed bachelor-level (four-year) programs in Communication Disorders. Speech-language pathology assistants have completed two-year programs in Communication Disorders. Both paraprofessionals and assistants provide much needed support to Speech-Language pathologists and the students they serve.
Our Services
Speech-language pathologists are specialists trained to evaluate, diagnose, and remediate disorders of communication and swallowing. We provide treatment to improve language comprehension and use, voice, stuttering, articulation/phonology, memory, pragmatics, and swallowing. Speech-language services are provided to students who experience Speech-Language difficulties to such a degree that it adversely affects their academic performance, social interactions, and/or emotionality.
