Lori Knasiak, an eighth-grade science teacher at Marlowe Middle School, is one of 65 Science Master Teachers contributing to the National Education Association (NEA) Science Master Teacher Project (MTP).
Teachers learn best from teachers. With that in mind, the MTP works with some of the best K-12 science teachers in the country to document and share what makes them so effective.
Science Master Teachers share both the “how” (instructional strategies and classroom management procedures) and the “what” (complete lessons, units, and courses) behind their successful teaching. This rich content is already available for free to the general public on the www.BetterLesson.com site.
More than 1,000 teachers from around the country applied to be a part of the Science MTP, and only 65 were selected to share their teaching insights and experience on www.BetterLesson.com.
These Master Teachers were selected for their exceptional scientific knowledge, for their unique ability to illuminate science concepts for their students and for their leadership in their respective schools and community.
The MTP was created by the NEA and www.BetterLesson.com in an effort to share the best teaching practices around the Common Core. The partnership’s Science Master Teachers boast more than 700 years of combined experience, hail from 24 different states and created over 5,000 NGSS-aligned lessons on the BetterLesson website.
Knasiak is a National Board Certified teacher and has taught at Marlowe for the better part of two decades. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Northern Illinois University.
