HMS vs. MMS Basketball

7th Grade

Huntley 158 was guaranteed to take home the Fox Valley Middle School Conference title December 7, as Heineman and Marlowe Middle Schools squared off in the conference championship game.
The 7th Grade teams were both undefeated coming into the game, with conference records for both teams sitting at 10-0. This game decided the conference champion and who would receive the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament.

The game was neck and neck in the first half. Heineman jumped out to an early 13-8 lead after the first quarter, but Marlowe came storming back to take a 19-18 lead at the half. The second half proved to be too much for the Marlowe Mustangs as the Heineman Hawks put together an impressive 10-0 run.
The Hawks would go on to win the game 47-36. The Heineman Hawks finished the regular season with an 11-0 record and Marlowe finished with a 10-1 record.
The leading performers in the game were:

  • Marlowe: Nathan Ary with 17 points and Nathan White with 6 points
  • Heineman: Isiah Jackson with 17 points and Seth Kardys and Adam Guazzo each with 8 points

8th grade game

Marlowe was ranked in the #5 spot in conference and Heineman was ranked #8 heading into the cross town rivalry game. Marlowe had a 7-3 overall record and Heineman had a 4-6 overall record.
The game was close early on as Heineman took a 9-8 lead after the first quarter. Marlowe then came back to take the lead at halftime with the score of 20-11. Marlowe was able to ward off the Heineman Hawks in the 2nd half to win the game with a final score of 36-30.
The leading performers in the game were:

  • Marlowe: Dorien Johnson with 18 points and Dylan Cangelosi with 13 points
  • Heineman: Tyler Castro and Nathan Dudzinski each had 9 points.
