WGN Kid of the Week

Marlowe Middle School student Lucas Wojnicki was recognized as the WGN Radio Allstate Kid of the Week for the week of April 3.

Nominated by teacher Lauren Smith, the 8th grader was recognized for organizing efforts to support his friend, a fellow student who recently underwent heart surgery.

Lucas started a campaign to have other students wear red in his honor and to gather for a photo to send to his friend.

“He’s demonstrated compassion toward others,” Smith said in her nomination.

Lucas was interviewed on air by WGN’s Steve Cochran on Tuesday.
