Kim Skaja, longtime member of the Huntley 158 Board of Education, was the recipient of an Award of Merit in the 2017 Distinguished Service Awards Program sponsored by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA).
The statewide Distinguished Service Awards program honors individuals and groups who have consistently gone above and beyond on behalf of their schools and whose efforts have enhanced education and conveyed its importance to the community at large.
She was recognized along with award winners from school districts throughout Illinois at INSPRA’s awards luncheon on Friday, May 5, at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.
Skaja was first elected to the Board of Education in fall 1995. Over her more than 20 years of service on the Board, she has seen the population of Huntley grow from just over 3,000 to more than 25,000.
Her nomination for the award noted Skaja’s many contributions to the District over that time, including her work to secure funding and help plan for the many needed construction projects to accommodate the growth of the District, championing many innovative and fine arts programs, making Board meetings more accessible, and helping to modernize the District’s communications efforts.
Skaja retired from the Board when she chose not to run for re-election when her term ended in April 2017.
