Alert

Huntley 158 is aware of spam phone calls being made to residents for which the caller ID appears as Huntley School District 158.

These “spoofed” calls do not emanate from the District, but rather are illegal telemarketing calls that are falsely using the District’s name.

According to the Federal Communications Commission, “spoofing” occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Spoofing is often used as part of an attempt to trick someone into giving away valuable personal information so it can be used in fraudulent activity or sold illegally. U.S. law and FCC rules prohibit most types of spoofing.

Both the District and local law enforcement agencies have received many reports of such calls in the local community. The District also has reported these calls to both local law enforcement and our telephone vendor. However, because the calls emanate outside of the District’s system and are difficult to trace, there is little direct action that can be taken.

Huntley 158 appreciates those who have reported these malicious calls and encourage residents to continue to report them to the District and to law enforcement. In addition, residents can report spoofed calls via the form at https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=39744.
