Huntley 158’s solar energy project, which is currently under construction, was featured on ABC 7 Chicago’s evening newscasts on January 10. The project, which is believed to be the largest of its kind in the state, will save the District $4.2 million or more over the next 20 years, while offsetting millions of pounds of carbon emissions.

The District will meet about 80% of its energy needs from solar. The District presented to several other school districts on its numerous energy-efficiency projects that have netted millions of dollars in savings over the past several years at the recent Illinois Association of School Boards Joint Annual Conference.

Construction on the project, which includes a multi-acre installation at each of the District’s three campuses, will continue through the winter. The system is expected to go online in the spring.
