HHS families,

On Friday evening, the high school administration was alerted to a threatening social media post, made via Snapchat, by a former Huntley High School student.

The former student posted a threat to bomb the school and cause harm to other former students. School officials immediately contacted law enforcement, and police began efforts to make contact with the individual. Following a thorough investigation into his social media posts, including searching the locations at which his posts were originated, with the assistance of Woodstock police, the former student was located and apprehended on Saturday.

He has been formally charged with disorderly conduct and is awaiting a hearing in the McHenry County detention center.

While the posts were disturbing in nature, the investigation indicates that the individual had no means or intent to carry out the threat.

We are grateful for the assistance of the Huntley Police Department and Woodstock Police Department in investigating this incident and neutralizing this threat. It is only with strong community support and engagement that we can ensure our learning environment remains a safe place for all of our students. As always, we want to thank the students and staff who alerted the administration to this incident. We continue to encourage our entire community to say something if you see something.

School will operate as normal tomorrow (Monday 1/13/2020). For additional information regarding this incident, please see the report issued by the Huntley Police Department.

Respectfully,

Marcus J. Belin
Principal
Huntley High School
