Huntley 158 community,

This morning a disturbing photo was shared with us by a member of the public. The photo appears to show a District school bus stopped at an unsafe distance from the train crossing at Main and Route 47 while a freight train was passing.

While the bus was empty at the time this occurred and no harm resulted from the incident, the photo appears to show a very dangerous situation that is unacceptable and not in keeping with our established transportation safety practices. We have launched an investigation to gather all information about this incident.

Safety is the number one priority of our Transportation Department and the District. We are doing all we can to get to the bottom of this incident and ensure that all necessary actions are taken in response.

Appropriate action will be taken to:

  • ensure the safety of all students using District transportation
  • reinforce safety practices regarding train crossings with all drivers
  • apply appropriate discipline in accordance with our employment policies.

In the interim, we ask that members of the public refrain from sharing rumors about the photo. We encourage individuals with potentially helpful information about this incident to share it directly with the District at (847) 659-3000.

Sincerely,
Huntley 158
