As we continue our e-Learning journey, we are expanding the tools available to staff and students to help enrich the learning experience. We’re looking to continue our successes, shore up any missing pieces, and serve our students and families to the best of our abilities.
Enhanced Tools for e-Learning
Two new tools will be coming online to enable synchronous video conferencing: Google Meets and Zoom. These tools have been in use on a limited basis at the middle and high school levels. They now will be available for expanded use at those levels as well as the elementary level.
These tools will allow our teachers to connect with their students, and for students to continue learning from each other, in large and small groups in a safe environment. Individual teachers will be communicating with families and students if they are planning to use these resources.
For the information of our elementary families, enabling Google Meets for the first time will also enable Google Chat. Google Chat enables students to communicate in real time with other students, though access outside of the district is still restricted. Our monitoring service, Gaggle, will be overseeing communications on Chat as soon as it is enabled, in order to flag any student content that is of concern. If you have any questions or concerns about the use of these tools in your child’s learning, please contact your teacher.

While we’re sure you love receiving these District-wide updates, there is, fortunately, way more cool stuff happening on these e-Learning Days than we could possibly fit into a reasonably sized e-newsletter. Following along throughout the day on social media will give you a much deeper look into the many different things happening throughout the District.

Food Service to Continue Over Spring Break
We are pleased to have served over 400 meals today with our pickup service at Marlowe Middle School and limited delivery service. These services will continue next week over Spring Break. Free lunch and breakfast packs will be available for pickup daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon at Marlowe Middle School. This service will be available to all District children, regardless of school enrollment or free/reduced/full pay status.

Despite having been prepared better than most districts for an extended period of nontraditional learning, there are many aspects of the journey that we are on that remain uncharted territory for the District. Board of Education Meeting Tonight
As previously communicated, tonight’s Board of Education meeting will be held as scheduled, with accommodations to the ongoing crisis. In keeping with public health recommendations, some Board members will participate by phone, and the District will enforce a limit of 10 people allowed concurrently within the facility. All meetings are streamed on our YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/district158.
