Those of you with students in our middle and high schools received an update earlier today about our ongoing planning for a hybrid learning model for students in grades 6-12. We look forward to further discussion of this important next step for us on our return to learn journey.
We thank everyone who has continued to provide their input and feedback on our efforts throughout this most challenging year. As I told our 6-12 families in the update earlier today, I am left with a feeling of hope and encouragement that all of us are committed to the shared goal of providing the best possible education for students under our current circumstances. I remain confident that when we all continue to attack these challenges together, we will get through this!
Communication and Transparency
Throughout this pandemic, we have attempted to calibrate our communications to provide families with all of the information they need about this crisis to make the difficult choices they face, while not adding to their existing information overload. We hope that our weekly updates are effective and efficient for you. While we know these messages can get long, we hope that you find them a reliable source of useful and important information.
We have recently updated our COVID-19 dashboard to provide a more passive source of information that we hope is also useful to you. Visit www.district158.org/covid-19/dashboard to find up-to-date information on positive cases within our District, the McHenry County School Decision Matrix, county-wide metrics, a timeline of decision making factors, and survey results.
In continuing to seek feedback, here’s a final reminder to anyone who has not yet done so to complete our Modified Remote Learning feedback form to fill us in on your experiences so far. The information from this survey will be useful to help us in our efforts to continually improve, and we’ll post the results to the dashboard after we’ve analyzed them.

Food Services
Please note: With the upcoming holiday and Institute Day next week, there will be no delivery or curbside pick-up food services on Monday, October 12th or Tuesday, October 13th. Services will resume on Wednesday the 14th at the normal times. Thank you!
Weekly Inspiration
The Heineman Middle School PE Department took their teaching to the streets for Bike Week 2020, encouraging their students to GET MOVING and join them on a bike ride through their own neighborhood. On Thursday and Friday, October 8-9, teachers rode through District neighborhoods at scheduled times so students, siblings, and family members could join in for the socially distanced fun and fitness!
Teachers rode through Manchester Lakes, the Coves, Heron Bay, Meadowbrook, Old Timers Park, Downtown Huntley, Stingray Bay, Lions Chase, Kiley Park, Wingpointe, and Heritage.
HMS PE teacher Heather Frederick said that in addition to its traditional fitness benefits, during the remote learning day, physical activity also helps students focus and concentrate. “Kids benefit from the opportunity to get their blood flowing, and the energy out. Everything works better in the body when you have physical activity
“Riding bikes is a healthy, fun, low impact form of exercise for all ages. HMS teachers are leading by example, encouraging and promoting this lifelong form of exercise. We are committed to staying healthy and active during the 2020 school year!”
