Huntley 158 families,

We are just one week away from Winter Break, and we are winding down the first half of the year in many of the traditional ways. Yet, we are also gearing up in many big ways.

Earlier today we sent an update to our K-5 families outlining the next steps in a potential return to in-person learning in the second half of the year. While many processes and factors must play out before we have detailed plans or a potential return date to announce, the hard work of preparing for such a return is and will be ongoing throughout the break period. Thank you to all of our families who have remained patient and responsive to the myriad of challenges we have faced.

As we head to the holidays, I hope I can spread some good cheer by sharing just a few highlights of the great things our staff, students, and community continue to achieve:

Congratulations to Jake Walker, band teacher at Martin Elementary School, who has been selected to march in a band of 300 directors from throughout the country at the 2022 Rose Parade: https://www.wifr.com/2020/12/11/local-band-director-participates-in-rose-bowl-parade/

Shout-out to Monique Belin, instructional coach at Martin, who led a great discussion for a national audience during Digital Promise’s National Teachers of Color Showcase: Reimagining Recruitment and Retention virtual conference.

Kudos to the HHS Football team, who completed their 9th annual Holiday Promise program, collecting over 450 toys and gifts for Grafton Food Pantry!

Thank you to the HHS National Honor Society and the members of the community who supported their traditional Adopt a Family event, which this year has led the effort to fulfill “wish lists” for more than 400 individuals!

Please stay tuned to the social media channels of the District and our schools, which frequently share good news from our amazing people!

Stay well!

Scott Rowe, Ed.D.
