Huntley High School’s Harmony Yearbook staff is proud to announce that they have once again earned recognition at both the state and international level.
The Illinois Journalism Education Association (IJEA) acknowledged the 2020 Harmony Yearbook (On the Bright Side) for its ability to capture the highs and lows of the 2019-2020 school year. Of the nine categories, Harmony Yearbook earned recognition in six.
The honors received include: Overall Excellence, Honorable Mention; Copy Writing, Honorable Mention; Sports Coverage, Third Place; Graphics, Third Place; Theme Development, Third Place; Coverage of the Year, Honorable Mention.
“On the Bright Side was the most ambitious of the three yearbooks I worked on, even before the pandemic came and threw away half of our plans. Placing in six categories out of nine for a state-wide event proves how resilient our staff and program are,” 2020 Editor-in-Chief Kayla Yakimisky (‘20) said. “I’m so proud that even when we had to completely rethink our entire production process, we still put out such an incredible publication and took home so many awards.”
The yearbook staff also entered individual categories through Quill and Scroll, the international honor society for high school journalism. This organization holds an annual competition to recognize international winners through a Yearbook Excellence Contest. Harmony’s 2020 Design Editor, Oshokemuh Tseumah (‘20), earned Honorable Mention for her photography.
“I am incredibly thankful,” Tseumah said. “I wasn’t expecting anything.”
The honored photograph, “The Color of Love,” captured Izzy Kuziolek (‘23) and Nathan Fiolek (‘24) during a “One Act” play directed by Luke Bucaro (‘21) and Andrew Burkey (‘21).
“Though the year ended in chaos and uncertainty, the staff did not lose sight of their goal to record Huntley’s history,” adviser Lauren Teeter said. “I am incredibly proud and grateful for a staff that continued to persevere during a pandemic.”
