Huntley 158 families,

We are so excited to have reached this point in this school year! We hope that all of our students and families have a wonderful Spring Break this coming week and come back refreshed on April 5, whether it be in-person full-time or in the remote setting.

While most of our staff members will be enjoying an extraordinarily well-earned break over the next week along with our students, many will be hard at work to prepare for the full return of in-person students in grades 6-12. We also will be continuing our efforts to increase transportation capacity to transport all who wish to return to five-day, full day in-person learning, regardless of their prior selection of learning model.

Bus Route Information

For students in grades 6-12 who will be joining us for in-person learning starting April 5 and who indicated a need for transportation, bus route information will be been posted in Powerschool by Wednesday, March 31. We ask those families to check Powerschool for this information as soon as possible and to report any suspected errors to the Transportation Department at (847) 659-3000. Only these families will see updates. There will be no changes to existing route information for elementary families.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-22

If you or someone you know has a child entering kindergarten next fall, please visit www.district158.org/kindergarten-registration to find information and the link to complete the fully online registration process. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2021 to register for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year.

International Travel Information

The District is following CDC/IDPH recommendations for international travel.

Visit the CDC’s website for information on testing and quarantine after traveling. On this site you are able to type your destination country in the search bar or click on the country on the world map you will see country specific guidance based on travel risk. We do require a 10-day quarantine after return from international travel, unless the CDC requirements are met. To decrease the length of the quarantine the CDC requirements you must do the following and review specific requirements on the above CDC website.

Information we will need prior to your child(ren) returns to in person learning includes:

  • What country you traveled to
  • What date you return to the US
  • Completion of CDC requirements post travel

Travel to most destinations will have similar requirements including varying lengths of quarantine and testing options. Until requirements have been met, and your student has been cleared by the school, your children should quarantine at home upon return from travel. Please feel free to reach out to your school if you have any questions and after you have reviewed the CDC requirements.

Weekly Inspiration

While our Education Foundation has had to alter its traditional means of celebration, their recognition of our outstanding educators and employees has meant more than ever. Over the past two weeks, the Foundation’s Surprise Squad visited 19 members of our staff to present prizes and inform them that they have been nominated by their peers as either Distinguished Educator or Distinguished Employee of the Year.

This tradition is always a highlight of the year, and I was pleased to join them for a few of their stops. While masks and social distancing do tamp down these types of celebrations just a bit, I’m pleased to report that the joy, appreciation, and emotion of the moment continue to ring through! These honorees will be recognized at the Foundation’s May 14 banquet with limited attendance and in keeping with social distancing guidelines.

Check out some of the pictures from the surprise visits on our Facebook page.

As always, I wish good health to you and yours.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowe, Ed.D.
