Girl Scouts

Several Huntley 158 5th grade students from Martin and Leggee Elementary Schools are completing their Bronze Award as Juniors in Girl Scout Troop 913:  Olivia Bakey, Maggie Kemblowski, Danielle Marston, Abby DeRamus, Hailey Cratty, Jenna Rechul, Hannah Kozosky, Kayla Henze, and Miranda Hoeft.

The Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn and recognizes girls’ courage, confidence, character, and commitment to making a difference in the world around them. To earn the award, participants identify a community issue to help solve or support, research its causes, identify a solution, and work with the community to bring the solution to life.

For their project, Troop 913 made and donated more than 40 No-Sew Fleece comfort blankets to Second Bridge, a Crystal Lake-based nonprofit that supports foster children in McHenry and other surrounding counties by providing necessary items for foster children and families.

Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award takes time, hard work, and dedication. Each of the girls spent more than 20 hours researching, identifying, and executing their projects. In addition, the troop is now organizing a supply drive for Second Bridge. If you are interested in supporting the effort, please consider a donation of any of the following:

  • Pre-Teen/Teen – Toiletry and Hygiene products, school supplies, book, small blanket, underwear and socks, and new pillow case.
  • Elementary/Toddler – Small blanket, toy, stuffed animal, book, coloring book and crayons, underwear and socks.
  • Baby – Diapers, wipes, teething toys, bath items, sleepers

Thank you for supporting D158 students, Second Bridge, and Girl Scout Troop 913!
