Bus Drivers on bus

Since its establishment some two decades ago, residents of the Sun City Huntley community have played a large role in driving the success—and the students—of Huntley Community School District 158.

The 55+ Del Webb community comprises a large population of retirees. But many residents continue to work full- or part-time, and several have found a great fit as employees of the Huntley 158 Transportation Department.

Currently, 11 employees of the department call Sun City home, and residents of the community have been manning buses for most or all of the past two decades.

“You get on a bus, be with your kids, and do your thing,” said Debi Calvin, a longtime driver who recently switched from full-time to part-time status to gain more time with her family. “I’m the captain of that ship, and I like it.”

Calvin and her co-workers Joe Krausert and Raymond Dombroski recently spoke with My Huntley News about their experiences in the department.

The department currently has openings for both bus driver and bus aide positions, with flexible schedules available. No experience is required, and the District offers paid training for drivers to obtain their bus driving permit.
