UPDATE: Huntley High School was placed on a “Hold in Place and Teach” this afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m. in response to the report of a potential weapon being brought to campus. Our building administrators and law enforcement officers responded immediately to investigate this report and secured the building. Families were notified of the situation at approximately 1:50 p.m. and students remained supervised and learning in our classrooms.

Leggee Elementary School, which is also located on Harmony Road Campus, was placed on a “Secure the Building and Teach” while the potential safety concern was investigated. Students were able to move within the building.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., our administrators and the Huntley Police Department determined no credible threat to student or staff safety was present. Students at Huntley High School were dismissed via a staggered release with increased police presence.

Students at Leggee Elementary were also dismissed when no threat to safety was determined. County officials and law enforcement officers were also stationed at our entrances and on Harmony Road to direct traffic in our effort to alleviate delays for our families.

We know our families experienced significant delays and increased traffic on Harmony Road and we understand the frustration this caused. We want to thank you for your ongoing patience as we worked to ensure the safety of each student on our campuses and expedite their safe return home. Of course, these situations are never ideal, but we appreciate our families’ understanding and support as we continue to respond and act with the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of all of our decision making.

We also know that these situations can increase levels of stress and anxiety for our students. While our priority this afternoon was ensuring that all of our students were able to get home safely, we want to let you know that our staff, teachers, and related services will be available to provide additional support to students throughout the day tomorrow and as needed. If you or your student is looking for resources and support, please contact your child’s teacher or building administration at any time.
