Huntley High School offers students the opportunity to pursue specialized coursework on a focused pathway through its four academies: The Medical Academy, Engineering Academy, Fine Arts Academy, and Global Academy.

Medical Academy

The Medical Academy was first organized in 2011 to help prepare students with an interest in health-related studies to pursue advanced coursework, including the full suite of Project Lead the Way biomedical classes, as well as medically-related courses in science, PE, English, foreign language, social studies, and other academic areas. In 2016 the Medical Academy launched the Youth Residency Program in partnership with Northwestern Medicine, a first-of-its-kind class offering up to 30 seniors to receive unparalleled experience in receiving job shadowing and mentoring in all departments of Northwestern’s health services, including intensive rotations of at least 2.5 hours a week at the state-of-the-art Northwestern Huntley Hospital.

Engineering Academy

The Engineering Academy offers the full suite of Project Lead the Way Engineering courses, as well as STEM-focused offerings in art, design, and other areas of learning. In addition to classwork, students in the Engineering Academy pursue hands-on and real-world experiences through guest speakers, job shadows, internships, clubs, and other extracurricular opportunities.

Fine Arts Academy

The Fine Arts Academy was established in 2018 and offers students the opportunity to pursue one of three fine arts tracks: art, music, and theater. Participation in the Academy is highly hands-on, with students pursuing practice, performance, and showcase of their art as well as learning outside the classroom.

Global Academy

The Global Academy was established in 2018 for students with varied interests in areas concerning social topics that transcend national borders. Four areas of specialization are offered: International Relations & Human Rights, Government & Law, Journalism & Media, or World Cultures. By completing the Global Academy students will be able to be recognized as an Illinois Global Scholar through the coursework and extracurricular activities.
