Marlowe Middle School is named after Henry Marlowe, who was known as the “Father of Agriculture” in the Huntley area. Mr. Marlowe was a former teacher and the founder of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) in District 158.
He was also a prominent businessman in the community, running the Marlowe Feed Mill with his wife, Helen, for many years. He brought many great experiences to the students, staff and community of Huntley, and we are very proud to have our Middle School named in his honor.
Mr. Marlowe passed away in 1984. For many years during our school’s existence we were honored to host Mrs. Marlowe at a variety of extracurricular and school-wide events. After her passing in 2017 at the age of 100, the school received a substantial gift from Mrs. Marlowe’s estate in support of fine arts and student activities.
The school opened in August of 2005 and completed an addition to accommodate the dramatic population growth prior to the 2007-2008 school year. While the school remains among the largest middle schools in Illinois, we are proud to maintain a friendly “small-school” feel.
