Staff Resources

Huntley 158 has identified a number of programs, websites and apps, many free for teachers, to aid in the development of social-emotional learning in your classes.

What is Social-Emotional Learning?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions (CASEL).

Now more than ever, it is essential to help our children feel supported and safe; one way this can be accomplished is through working on their SEL skills. The SEL activities and lessons provided by your child(rens) teacher(s) through in-person and remote instruction are meant to foster ongoing development of these skills.  District 158 would also like to provide additional resources to our families as an opportunity to continue supporting social-emotional and mental health at home.  Included below is a list of free SEL resources that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.  It is incredibly important for schools and families to continue to partner to ensure that those students who need additional support to cope with feelings of stress, anxiety, or grief have access to available resources.  For additional information regarding community mental health resources and information specific to supporting children through the COVID-19 pandemic, please access our Family Resource Center for Mental Health Support.

SEL Resources

7 Mindsets
  • Happiness and success is not a destination, instead it is a journey; and it can only be defined by the individual. The 7 Mindsets are the result of a 3 year study designed to uncover how many people found happiness, success, meaning, and purpose in life. The research found that happiness and success is not predicated on what we know or where we come from, it is predicated on how we think.
The 7 Mindsets are designed to promote self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
