On this episode of Huntley 158 Today we speak with four students from the Huntley 158 LIGHT (Life Instruction Guiding Huntley Transition) Program.
The LIGHT Program began in 2013 to serve special education students ages 18-21 who have completed their graduation requirements but delayed acceptance of their high school diploma.
It offers students the opportunity to work toward their desired post-secondary goals while providing necessary training for future employment and independent living. Presently, about 75% of students in the program are employed at local businesses, primarily in the Huntley community.
The program partners with about 40 different employers in the local community. In addition, many students in the program are taking classes at McHenry County College toward an associate’s degree or other career certification.
