Raider Writing Support

Huntley High School is committed to academic excellence. The HHS Writing Center is designed to provide one-on-one support and resources to help students develop and hone their writing skills across all disciplines.   Additionally, students learn how to analyze and reflect upon their own writing in a constructive and practical manner.  Students can take advantage of the support provided by scheduling a one-on-one or small group session. Possible areas of support focus can be:

  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Writing Cohesion
  • Grammar/Mechanics
  • Organization of Claims
  • Selecting and Integrating Evidence
  • Self Editing Strategies
  • Developing Writer Voice
  • Researching Navigating Databases
  • MLA Formatting

Procedures and How to Sign Up For Assistance

When attending the HHS Writing Center, please keep the following information in mind:

  • Walk-ins are welcome depending on availability; however, appointments are encouraged and will be prioritized.
  • Schedule an appointment using Calendly at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Select the option that most closely matches your needs.
  • Sign-up for a time slot at an appropriate time during the school day (lunch, advisory, study hall, blended period).
  • If you need to cancel an appointment, please do so as soon as possible so others may have a chance to sign up.
  • Sessions will be in 20 minute increments.
  • Obtain a pass from a teacher if attending during class. 
  • Bring a copy of your work along with specific questions needing to be answered. 
  • Expect feedback and conversation about their writing, not proofreading or editing.
