Students at Huntley High School will perform William Shakespeare’s dark and powerful tragedy Macbeth, from Wednesday, October 26 thru Saturday, October 29 in the school’s Performing Arts Center. All shows are at 7 p.m.
One of William Shakespeare’s best-known plays and his shortest tragedy, the story tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends as Macbeth, a brave Scottish general receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that he will one day become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action, Macbeth and his wife become liars and murderers in an attempt to attain ultimate power. Standing in his way, to stop Macbeth and his murderous demise is Lord Macduff, the Thane of Fife.
Running the week of Halloween, this production has incorporated the seasonal elements of witchcraft, ghosts and blood to help tell the frightening story of one man’s dissent into darkness and madness. As such, the production is not necessarily appropriate for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.
Tickets are $5 general seating and may be purchased at the door.
Macbeth is directed by Christine DeFrancesco, with costuming by Brooke Harper, set construction by Nick Wedoff, and lighting and sound design and special effects by Nathan Knapke.
