Thanks to the Grammy-winning band “The Chainsmokers,” Huntley High School prom-goers enjoyed a night they’ll never forget on Saturday.
The duo, a multiple Grammy nominee and winner of the 2017 Grammy for Best Dance Recording, “crashed” the prom, held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Rosemont. They popped in to perform a brief set, including their #1 hit, “Closer,” just prior to heading to their scheduled concert at the nearby Allstate Arena.

As Principal Scott Rowe described to the Daily Herald: “About three words in somebody screamed ‘That’s The Chainsmokers!’ and they just bum-rushed the stage. It says a lot about those guys and how cool they are to their fans.”

While a complete surprise to attendees, Rowe said the appearance was planned about two weeks prior, when he received a call from a representative of the band.
An enterprising HHS student who saw that the band would be playing close by on the night of prom sent them an email asking them to stop by. Rowe said he was excited about the opportunity to create a special experience for students and had to restrain himself from spoiling the surprise since.
“It was probably the toughest secret I’ve ever kept, because I knew the kids were going to go crazy for it,” Rowe said.
