Huntley 158 families,

As you may have heard, Governor Pritzker earlier today announced the cancellation of face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the academic year for all Illinois schools.

While we are profoundly saddened to receive confirmation that we will not be reuniting in our schools this year, we are not surprised. Our staff has been at work preparing for this news, and we are confident that we will continue to provide an excellent educational experience for our students through e-Learning. With this news comes questions for our families, and we hope to answer some of them for you below.

Picking Up Items from School

Many students have items that they will want or need to pick up from their schools. The Governor’s stay-at-home order remains in effect until April 30, and the potential remains for that to be extended, therefore, we do not want to preemptively plan ahead.

We’ve started planning processes for students and families to visit schools to collect items from lockers and classrooms. However, these plans have not been finalized yet. We will communicate more specific information to you as we move closer to the end of May.

PROCESSES WE ARE CONSIDERING (NOT FINALIZED)

  • Drive through pick up for elementary schools
  • Scheduling groups of 50 students for 1 hour per group at middle and high school to retrieve items from lockers

We will communicate more specific details with you as we finalize our plans and have clear guidance from the Governor on the stay at home order.

Student Engagement

We have faced challenges with keeping some students engaged during the e-Learning period, and we expect that this challenge will grow now that students know they will not be returning to the physical classroom.

We appreciate all that you have done to help keep students engaged in learning, and we ask for your continued partnership in this endeavor. However, we acutely understand the difficulties many families are facing in this crisis, and we do not want to add stress to families already facing challenges. Our goal is to keep learning at the forefront for our students, NOT to add stress to your home.

PLEASE keep open lines of communication with your child’s teacher(s) if you need support or are having difficulty at home. WE ARE HERE TO HELP!

Sincerely,

Dr. Scott N. Rowe
Superintendent
