Huntley 158 families,

Please see the important updates below!

End of School Year

New remote learning instruction will continue through May 14. That will be the last date on which new, graded assignments will be posted. The remainder of the school year (through May 22) will focus on remediation, completion of missing assignments, and ongoing, non-graded engagement with students at the discretion of your teacher.

Our aim is to keep all students engaged while giving primary focus to students who will benefit from remediation work, time to “catch up,” and raise final grades through additional work. Please look for additional details to come from your teacher(s).

Retrieving Student Belongings from Schools

As previously communicated, we have been working on options to allow students/families to retrieve items from student lockers and classrooms. While we have not yet finalized details of these plans, we want to provide as much information as we can at this time.

Tentatively, our schools are planning availability for students to retrieve belongings from classrooms and lockers during the week following Memorial Day (May 26-29).

Operating these availabilities within social distancing guidelines will be a challenge, and additional communication will come as buildings get detailed plans in place.

Regardless of those specifics, please note that all visitors must adhere to the following protocols:

  • Must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth
  • Respect directives limiting the number of people in the building at one time

Summer School

Summer School 2020 will be held in a totally online format at all levels. We are at work to transition our planned offerings into fully online formats while ensuring that the individualized nature of our traditional summer school remains at the forefront. Additional details will be communicated as they become available.

Kindergarten Registration

We strongly encourage families with students entering kindergarten in 2020-21 to complete registration online! Find full information and the online registration form at http://www.district158.org/kindergarten-registration/.

If you have friends or neighbors with students entering kindergarten in the fall, please share this information with them!

Food Service Accounts

Our Food Services Department is in the process of settling lunch accounts for seniors. Families of seniors should disregard any My School Bucks negative balance emails at this time. In addition, for other students, milk break money remaining in accounts will be transferred into meal accounts for next year.

Future Planning

While we continue striving to provide strong learning opportunities for our students, we are also looking ahead to plan for the possibilities when we “return” for the 2020-21 school year in the fall.

What shape school will take then is unknown. We have formed a number of internal committees to plan for areas of student and operational needs for the following possibilities:

  • school resumes for traditional in-person instruction
  • school resumes using Remote Learning
  • school resumes with periods of both in-person and remote learning

We anticipate sharing a comprehensive plan for next school year sometime over the summer but will communicate important developments from our committees when possible.

Please continue to reach out for assistance whenever a need arises. We will get through this together!

Sincerely,

Scott Rowe, Ed.D
Superintendent
