Huntley 158 families,

We’ve officially reached the last day of school! While there are likely many breathing a sigh of relief that the demands of educating our students are taking a much-needed break, I am acutely aware that there are others deeply concerned about keeping students engaged in learning over the summer. I know many more are already looking ahead to the fall and wondering what school will look like when we return.

We also are tackling these questions head-on, and have been for several weeks.

While we will continue to rely on the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Public Health for guidance on the requirements and constraints under which we must operate, please know that we plan to continue offering the best education to students as possible.

Return to School Comprehensive Plan Anticipated by Mid-July

To help us plan for next year, we have formed a number of planning groups within our staff, covering a variety of areas of focus. As a baseline, we have chosen to structure our planning groups according to the Return to School Roadmap, a national initiative of Opportunity Labs focused on helping schools prepare for a return to school under our “new normal.”

Our groups cover the following areas of focus: Governance, Wellness, Instruction, School Operations, Facilities and Operations, Post-Secondary Concerns, and Technology. These groups have already begun planning. If, as we anticipate, the State provides guidance to us promptly, we hope to combine the work of these groups into a comprehensive plan, ready to be shared publicly near mid-July. We know how important this information will be for our families’ own planning efforts, and we aim to provide all of the information you need to know to help you prepare for our return to school in the fall.

To help us in these efforts, we will be sending you a survey to help us reflect on the work we have done, and gather your input on planning for next school year. Please be on the lookout for this survey soon, and please respond promptly to help us in our efforts to plan for next school year.

Ongoing Communications

This message will be our last regular weekly update. However, we will continue to share important information as it becomes available throughout the summer via email, text, website, and social media. Please stay tuned to your preferred channels of communication so that you do not miss important updates from us.

Have a wonderful summer, and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Scott Rowe, Ed.D.
