Huntley High School’s Raider Nation News took first prize in the Division AA News Program category at the Midwest Media Educators Association VidFest on April 28.
The video festival included 43 schools from around the midwest, and HHS competed for the first time as new members of the MMEA. A group of 18 students joined teacher Alyssa Gilleland at the event to celebrate their work.
“One of the coolest parts of the ceremony was that they played the winning video from each category. So, not only was it rewarding to see our work played in front of over 800 people, but, I know it also inspired our students to be watching the work of really talented kids from other schools,” Gilleland said.
Raider Nation News is produced weekly by Gilleland’s TV Production class and aired in all HHS classrooms.
“The whole bus ride home my students were bringing up ideas for next year, and we left the day reenergized and proud,” she said. “Our whole RNN team knew that we had been working really hard this year, but, I think this helped students validate all of their efforts and growing pains.”
