Huntley 158 families,

So much is happening in our buildings. Not only are large numbers of students learning in-person, but preparations are underway on many exciting fronts. Families of the Class of 2021 should continue to look out for communications from HHS regarding end-of-year events and graduation information. We thank all members of our community who continue to work to make this nontraditional year as special as possible for our seniors.

In addition, at all levels we are already planning ahead for next year. While much remains unknown in regard to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on our schools and society as we plan for 2021-22, we are taking proactive steps to be ready for all possibilities. Please be on the lookout for additional communications from us in the coming weeks regarding planning for students returning to our schools next year.

Reminders About Vaccines

  • As announced last week, McHenry County residents who are 16 and older are now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at MCDH clinics.
  • In addition to protecting their health, those who have been fully vaccinated get an added benefit in regard to close contact quarantine guidelines. Fully vaccinated individuals who are exhibiting no symptoms will no longer have to quarantine as a result of being a close contact with an infected individual.
  • Individuals are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany minors to the first and second dose appointment and sign a consent form during both visits. Additionally, minors must present proof of birth date at the time of their appointment.
  • If you elect to have your child vaccinated, please inform the high school nurse’s office. This information will assist in future contact tracing procedures.

For information about where to get a vaccination in McHenry County, please visit MCDH’s Vaccine Locations page. To search for available COVID-19 vaccine appointments at an MCDH clinic, visit the COVID-19 Vaccine Registration page or call MCDH’s COVID-19 Call Center at (815) 334-4045.

Weekly Inspiration

I can confidently speak on behalf of the administrative team and members of the Board of Education that we were all thrilled to welcome winners from this year’s Young Authors Contest to be recognized at last night’s Board meeting. While our meetings have been in-person in keeping with public health guidelines for the past few months, last night was our first opportunity in a long time to welcome a larger group of students in for recognition.

While the recognition was kept brief, we were energized by not only the occasion, but also the enthusiasm and creativity that these students showed in writing and constructing their books! You can find the full list of winners on our Facebook page

As always, I wish good health to you and yours.

Sincerely,

Scott Rowe, Ed.D.
