HUNTLEY, IL – Huntley High School’s Orchesis Dance Company will present its annual dance concert, Resurgence, at 7 p.m., January 31 and at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., February 1 in the District 158 Performing Arts Center located at the school, 13719 Harmony Road in Huntley.

Under the leadership of company director Samantha Strupek and assistant director Lauren Birkholz, Resurgence explores ‘a rising again into life’ through a series of nine dance pieces choreographed by students, faculty, and guest choreographer, Melanie Sikyta.

Strupek, directs a piece entitled I Want To developed from the song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones and Ituana. In another piece based on the song “You Say” by Lauren Diagle, Sikyta directs eleven dancers exploring the idea of influence, identity, journey, and crossroads. Inspired by the concept of “questioning your identity,” the piece asks: “Where do I fit in, where is my security, where is my footing?”

The show’s remaining student choreographed pieces include: Neon Lights by Mira Terranova; Shadows and One Sided Love by Jayden Smith; After It All by Kate Alvarado; Dreaming by Cara Haugh; Alone by Maggie Becker; and Almost There by Cara Haugh and Mira Terranova.

Orchesis is an extra-curricular student dance company offered at the high school for students in grades 9-12. Acceptance into the company is by audition only. The annual concert presents a variety of student-choreographed dances and thus reflects the artistic style and creation of the members. The 13-member dance company works tirelessly from September through January to teach, learn, rehearse, and perfect the annual concert. Orchesis is a great opportunity to develop performance skills, produce original choreography, and enhance creative abilities.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and can be purchased at the door one hour prior to show time or online at https://d158.ticketleap.com.
