As we wind down the unexpected end of our 2019-20 school year, we still have much to look forward to and much to celebrate.
Celebrations
While we do not yet have definite plans to announce for our formal celebrations of seniors and eighth-grade students advancing on to the next stages of their lives, we are very close to finalizing these plans. Please be on the lookout for information to come from your school(s) in the coming days about how we will celebrate our students’ accomplishments within the constraints of our current environment.
I would like to point out an initiative by Huntley Community Radio to help recognize our soon-to-be graduates. On May 16, HCR will air a collection of messages to graduates from the community. Anyone who would like to send a video clip or leave an audio clip can do so by emailing the video clip to [email protected] (which could also be shared on the HCR Facebook page) or calling the listener line at 224-650-7620 and leaving their audio only message. The radio station is requesting that audio or video clips not exceed 30 seconds, be filmed with phones held horizontally, and include basic generic information.
In addition, in the interim, I encourage you to follow HHS on Twitter (@huntleyhs) and Instagram (@HuntleyRaiders), where the school is sharing photos and future plans of graduates of the Class of 2020.
Retrieving Belongings
Our schools are also finalizing plans for students/families who desire to visit schools to retrieve belongings from lockers and classrooms. These schedules and details will vary by school, but all are expected to hold such opportunities prior to the end of May. Please be on the lookout for details to come from your school(s) soon.
Summer Food Services
Our Food Services offerings of free breakfast and lunch packs will continue during the summer, through at least June 30. Any family in District will continue to be able to pick up lunch and breakfast daily, Monday through Friday, via our drive-up line at Marlowe Middle School.
Teacher Appreciation Week
I have been touched by the outpouring of support for staff we have seen throughout this pandemic, and especially during this Teacher Appreciation Week. I know that our teachers also have been heartened by your moving messages.
If you have not yet, there is still time to send a quick note of thanks, in whatever medium you choose, to the teachers, current or former, who have made an impact on your life. Now more than ever, our society is seeing what a truly tough and important job teachers have. Please join me in saying a big THANK YOU to all of our outstanding staff members.
